First year Coach Laurie Hadley takes on the girls swim team with the new Covid restrictions.

”It has been an adjustment to say the least with the COVID restrictions. With the new restrictions due to COVID, there are new difficulties that the swim team has to face.It has been a challenge at times making sure that myself and the team abide by the guidelines set forth by the Montrose County health department and the recreation center,” said Hadley.

While the COVID restrictions have caused the team to have to modify their season. The girls have been trying to adapt to the new normal with a positive attitude and looking forward the the future.

“COVID-19 definitely changed a lot, but our team has adapted well. We have had a very shortened season, which presented a lot of challenges because it is difficult to build up endurance in such a small amount of time. Other than that, the mask restrictions have been slightly inconvenient, but we know it’s necessary to continue our season. Personally I have improved my times, and I am excited to see how our district competition will play out,” junior Grace Cross said.

One major concern with the COVID restrictions has been if parents can watch their kids swim.

“For the most part there is not an audience allowed on deck. However, the majority of the parents have volunteered at our home meets so they are able to watch everyone swim.”

With COVID, a lot of schools were not lucky enough to have a swim season. “We all have adjusted and are happy to be able to swim and have a season,” Hadley said.

The girls swim season only has about two meets left and Montrose High School will be hosting the District swim meet Sat. March 6.
