Montrose Varsity volleyball team beat the Palisade Bulldogs Thursday, August 27th in Lloyd McMillan Gym with now a 2-0 record. This being their second game they have a lot of potential for the season.

They won their first two sets and Palisade took the third. With their last set being (25-19) and ending the game with another win.

“ I think they played really well together as a team- that’s one thing about them is they’re very scrappy and it’s a good asset. They have wild plays that they’re able to get kills on so they don’t really let balls drop without effort” said Head Coach, Shane Forest.

They have large shoes to fill as the team previously went to state in 2019 and have a good chunk of the same team who are now seniors. With upcoming players like freshman Brooke Williams with 7 kills playing 2 sets in the Delta game, they seem to have quite the potential.

Varsity’s top scoring seniors Kelsey Rocco and Madisen Matoush used the lady bulldogs to their advantage. Rocco having 16 kills and 13 digs and Matoush having 15 kills and 18 digs.

“Going into the game we didn’t really know what to expect, we were just ready to go in and play. I would say a goal we all have this year is to make it to state. It’s our last year playing together so for us, that would be a great finish to our season.” Said Matoush.

Their game last week against the Delta Panthers was another win for Montrose. They won their first two sets and finished the game 3-1.

Since then the lady Indians have gone on to beat Glenwood and will take on BattleMountain Saturday September 4th.
