The Montrose Indians won their second game Friday, September 3 against rival Fruita Wildcats winning a close game (26-22) after falling behind in the first half.
Seniors Austin Griffin and Ethan Hartman had another productive game with Hartman scoring a touchdown and Griffin scored three touchdowns.
With it being close the entire game and even being down by as much as 9 points in the late second quarter, Montrose still managed to pull away from the Wildcats allowing no touchdowns to be scored in the second half. They were led by the team captains Bode Greiner and Austin Griffin.
“It’s awesome, Bode and I have worked really hard for four years and it’s awesome to see the success we are having and also very exciting that we get to be captains and lead the team together,” Griffin said.
The Indians have it out for the end zone, scoring 4 touchdowns and one of those touchdowns was a huge run from Ethan Hartman where he broke a lot of tackles and stood in bounds with Bode helping him keep balance.
“It’s the best feeling in the world, just knowing that all of the conditioning and weightlifting paid off,” Hartman said
Of course with scoring also comes cheering and the fans did not lay off one bit, going crazy on 4th downs, touchdowns, and even huge hits on both sides of the ball.
“It’s awesome, I’m super thankful I get to experience that with the team and to make Montrose proud, it’s honestly amazing to see how Montrose rallies behind a team and are just as excited to go out and win just as much as us,” Griffin said.
Friday September 10th, the 5th ranked Indians will take on former head coach Todd Casebier’s Durango Demons ranked 2nd in 3A.
