The Montrose Indians Softball team’s senior night was held in the morning of September 25, they played a double header against Rifle High School, and honored Rifle’s seniors as well as our seniors. The Indians six seniors are, Grace Gibson, Grace Ancell, Lara Edeker, Malaya Becenti, Dani Bruggeman, and Savanah Piquette.

During the beginning of the first game, it was a close race between Montrose and Rifle, but towards the fifth inning, Rifle started to pull ahead, and they won in the 7th inning 11-5.

“This season has been a lot of fun even with our ups and downs,” said senior Grace Gibson, when talking about this season.

After a small lunch break, both of the teams were prepared to play again. In this game, Rifle quickly pulled ahead, and Montrose had a tough time keeping up. During a tough time in the batting line up for Montrose, Senior Lara Edeker hit a grand slam to earn the team one point which picked up the energy for Montrose. But, after a few more rough innings, Rifle won in the fifth inning 17-5.

“I think that we started out kind of slow but we’re getting better and better and picking up momentum each and every week,” said coach Mike Nelson when talking about this season.

All of these seniors have been playing since their freshman years, or earlier than that, they all enjoy the sport and the community they’ve built around it.
