Girls Swim Team Starts Their Season

The Girls Swim/Dive Team placed 7th with 280 points at their first meet of the season which was a relay meet on Saturday December 4th at Grand Junction High School. Coach Laurie Hadley had high hopes for her team at this meet. 

“I’m excited for the first meet and the start of the season. The girls have been working hard so I am looking forward to the meet and getting the baseline times for everyone,” Hadley said.

The following two divers placed as well as two relay teams:

Trinity Alvord- 3rd One Meter with a score of 218.65

Violet Noel- 4th One Meter with a score of 218.65

200 Free Relay (Mattie Embrey, Grace Cross, Kate Donohoe, Alise Hardie)- 4th 2:08.90

400 Free Relay (Kate Donohoe, Megan Waxler, Mattie Embrey, Alise Hardie)- 6th 4:40.66

100 Freestyle (Mattie Embrey, Grace Cross, Sierra Tafoya, Ariana Najar)-4th 1:01.00

500 Freestyle Relay (Kate Donohoe, Grace Cross, Caitlyn Dillon, Alise Hardie)-3rd 5:43.87

200 Backstroke Relay (Alise Hardie, Caitlyn Dillon, Megan Waxler, Ariana Najar)- 2nd 2:27.84

200 Backstroke Relay (Megan Waxler, Ariana Najar, Grace Cross, Caitlyn Dillon)- 2nd 2:17.65

100 Medley Relay (Ariana Najar, Caitlyn Dillon, Mattie Embrey, Sierra Tafoya)-3rd 1:11.40

“I feel like we did really well for our first meet, and I’m super excited to continue competing with this team,” said senior Mattie Embrey

The girls on the team are very positive and are looking forward to not only improving their times all throughout this season but also improving from last year.

“My goal for the season is to get faster and just enjoy the season,” said junior Gwen Kingery. 

The next swim meet will be December 18 at 9:30am at the Montrose Rec Center.
