OHS Girls Wrestling Team Heads to Soroco

The Olathe High School Girls wrestling team traveled to Soroco, Colorado to compete in a one-day tournament on December 11, 2021. The team finished second overall with their final score being 60.5 points, Soroco High School finished in first place with 69.0 points, and Middle Park High School finished in third place with 44.0 points.
“I feel the team performed well, there was a lot of girls there that we could compete with and not only compete, but we also won against. It was a small tournament, but a good weekend for us,” said assistant coach Jake England.
All the girls on the team placed well in the tournament. Sophomore Sadie Corn placed first in the 111-pound weight bracket with two wins and no losses. Senior Nicole Koch placed first in the 127-pound weight bracket with 3 wins and no losses. Sophomore Allie Stambaugh placed second in the 136-pound weight bracket with three wins and one loss. Sophomore Aby England placed third in the 185-pound weight bracket with one win and two losses. Lynessia Duran placed second in the 215-pound weight bracket with no wins and two losses.
“I feel like I did really good this weekend. I was really mentally ready, and I feel like that showed,” Corn said, “I am super excited about my first 1st place of the season, and I am ready for more to come.”
This is just the start of the season for the team, and all of the girls already competed really well. The team is very excited to keep competing and see where the rest of the season takes them.
