The Montrose Indians Wrestling Team travelled to Gunnison Friday January 7th and Saturday January 8th for a tournament where they placed 2nd with 241 total team points. Junior Dmarian Lopez(285lbs) and Senior  Isaiah Alcazar(170lbs) placed first while Junior Kamron Alegria(120lbs) placed 2nd.

On the first day the Indians dueled against Canon City and lost 48-25 with only getting a couple of pins.

“I think we actually need to and want to get better. We need to start watching ourselves when we lose, we need to see where our problems are and then we won’t make as many mistakes,” Alegria said.

Alegria started his weekend good with a pin in 33 seconds and continued that by pinning his next to opponents in a combined 8.53 seconds but lost in the first place match 10-7.

“The outcome of that match could’ve been different, I personally think that I could work on getting out from the bottom cause if I did that the match probably would’ve ended differently,” Alegria said.

This weekend the Indians will travel up to Arvada Colorado to compete in one of the bigger tournaments of the year with a lot of ranked individuals.

“ I don’t really focus on that type of stuff, I don’t really look or care about any of that stuff I just go out there and wrestle,” Alcazar said.

You can ask anyone what their goal is to do by the end of the season, and they all pretty much say the same thing, “Go and win state.”

Alegria said the same thing but he is looking to try to wrestle for as long as he can.

“If I had the opportunity I would go out and wrestle for any college, I just love to wrestle,” Alegria said.
