Baking sweet treats
September 21, 2020
Bizcochos are a common treat in Mexican culture, they’re a cookie coated with either sugar and cinnamon or powdered sugar. Usually they are made at events such as parties, and at holidays. The difficult part for them is making the dough into small circles to make the cookies!
As a little girl my mom and I would always make them before Christmas and we’d take a few to our Christmas parties for our family to enjoy. That sweet cinnamon smell of them takes me back to my childhood Christmas seasons, and reminds me of spending time with family.
To make these sweet treats you will need:
Two cups of lard
One-two cups of sugar
One orange peel grated
Splash of milk
One tablespoon of vanilla extract
One tablespoons of baking powder
One egg
For the coating:
One cup sugar
Two tablespoons cinnamon
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, and in a bowl add your lard, sugar, egg, baking powder orange, milk and your salt and mix it together.
Then, start putting in the flour little by little until the mixture starts to become a dough, keep mixing for about 10 minutes.
Let your dough rest for 15 minutes.
Once the dough is rested you can make your cookies, prepare your cookie sheet with parchment paper or with oil. Grab small pieces or for your desired size.
Let bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
Once baked, coat them with sugar and cinnamon.
Enjoy!
