Olathe Girls Wrestling Team Heads to State

Olathe’s newly sanctioned girls wrestling team took Rae Myers, who placed 1st, and Nikki Koch, who also placed 1st, to Pueblo, Colorado, where they competed in the first ever high school sanctioned Girls wrestling State Tournament.

     Wrestling at 147, Myers, a Junior this year and has a record of 12-0 and scored 22.0 team points in the state tournament. She placed 1st this year after a devastating loss in 2020 in her finals match where she placed 2nd. Myers went undefeated this year, and won her quarter finals match by pin fall, won her semifinal match by decision, and also won by decision in the first place match. 

     “Season was great, the team did pretty great. I feel I did great this season, I worked really hard and I am an undefeated champ,” said Myers. “I feel like I did okay at the state tournament, but I was off and could have done way better.” 

     Wrestling at 118, Koch is also a Junior this year, and has placed 1st at state her freshman, sophomore, and now her junior year. Her record this year is 21-0 and scored 26.0 points in the state tournament. She won by pin fall in the quarterfinals, semifinals, and in the first place match.

     Together, the two scored a total of 48.0 team points, and Olathe placed 4th overall with Chatfeild in1st, Pomona in 2nd, and Callahan in 3rd.
