The Olathe High School Girls Wrestling team, the team is a mixture of students from Montrose and Olathe, took a trip to Arapahoe Colorado Dec. 3rd and 4th for multiple competitions. On Friday night, they dueled Arapahoe High School, and Mountain Vista High School, then on Saturday, they had a tournament where the girls competed against 15 different schools from Colorado.

“We did good, where we thought we would. We had a bunch of people that haven’t wrestled for a while and we had some rookies, but everybody got a win and so we’re making the progress we need to see at this point in the year,” said head coach Ryan Corn. “Our ultimate goal is Regionals right now, and we know that’s a good nine weeks away, so we’ve just got to keep making that progress forward.”

Overall, Olathe placed 10th with Doherty placed first, Chatfield placed second, and Douglas County placed third. All of the girls from Olathe won at least one match over the weekend. Nicole Koch from Olathe placed first in the 118 pound bracket, with a 5-4 win over Israel Resendez from Denver east. Lynessia Duran placed fourth in the 215 pound bracket, her bracket was a round robin bracket and so she wrestled every one in her bracket once and she ended up with her record for the weekend being 1-3.

“I feel like I performed pretty well other than my finals match,” said senior Nicole Koch. “ I’m most excited for the team bonding because our team gets along pretty well and we all boost each other up and always support each other.”

The team’s next competition is the Soroco Invitational in Soroco, Colorado. They will compete in just a tournament in Soroco this weekend. The next weekend, December 17th and 18th, they will go to Farmington, Utah where they will compete in the Utah Christmas Clash.
