Mosaic located on 21 N Cascade Avenue in Montrose, Colorado is a vintage clothing store, a gallery for local artists, and an interactive shopping experience all in one building.

Adult customers can participate in workshops offered at the store like Watercolors and Wine that happens once a month with a new theme each lesson. Minors are more than welcome to participate but will, obviously be participating in the watercolor portion only. The store also allows customers to make custom hats, plant succulents, make fairy gardens, and even make your own jewelry at these DIY stations open daily. These stations are always available for customers to participate in, so come on in and get crafty.

The owner Leanna Johnson opened Mosaic in November 2020 amidst the pandemic. Many local artists and businesses weren’t able to display their products at farmers markets due to the shut down, so this was a way for their work to be sold again in a safe environment.

Many local artists around the Western Slope are able to sell their pieces at the store, kind of like a permanent booth at a farmers market, with their products mixed throughout the store for purchase. Johnson also owns her own sustainable bamboo jewelry and furniture company called Lucky Tree Studio along with a graphic design business named Treefeather studio. Products from her other companies are available at Mosaic.

Johnson has been selling her jewelry for over four years and designing logos for businesses for over seven. She and her husband, Jordan Johnson’s, design work can be seen at the Montrose Public Library he even designed the labels for Horsefly’s beverages.

“It’s not just a retail store,” owner Leanna Johnson said, “it’s a place for all ages to do something fun and have a creative outlet as well.”

More contemporary style art made by local artist are featured every first Friday of the month. A new artist is featured every month during the gallery opening, hoping to highlight different styles within the community of the Western Slope.

Birthday parties along with other events like hat making workshops are also offered at the studio. A summer camp will also be open teens and children this year at Mosaic. The ages range from 6-12 for the kids and 12-17 for teens with an exception for 18 year olds who would like to register as well.
